<Data><MOTOR_Procedure><pstepgrp><p>Exploded view of compressor, <emph type="bold">Fig. <xref idref="ach1200000000846" />.</emph></p><stepgrp><step>If compressor is marginally operable, run engine at idle speed and let air conditioning work for a few minutes, then shut engine off.</step><step>Evacuate system as outlined under <emph type="dquote">Refrigerant Recovery</emph> in <emph type="dquote">General Service</emph> on main menu selection.</step><step>Remove fasteners on front inner fender from both wheel wells.</step><step>Remove front grill cover clips by carefully pulling up, then the cover by releasing front edge of cover from grill.</step><step>Remove drive belt.</step><step>Disconnect alternator connector and positive alternator cable from alternator.</step><step>Remove harness connector and harness clamps.</step><step>Remove two bolts holding alternator, then remove alternator.</step><step>Disconnect connector from A/C condenser fan motor. Detach wire harness clip. Remove upper mounting bolts, and A/C condenser fan shroud. Be careful not to damage radiator fins when removing A/C condenser fan shroud.</step><step>Remove bolt and nut, then disconnect suction hose and discharge hose from A/C compressor. Plug or cap lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid moisture and dust contamination.</step><step>Remove mounting bolts and A/C compressor. Be careful not to damage radiator fins when removing A/C compressor.</step><step>Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:</step><stepgrp2><step><emph type="bold">Torque</emph> compressor mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs.</step><step><emph type="bold">Torque</emph> suction and discharge line nuts to 86 inch lbs.</step><step>Replace O-rings with new ones at each fitting, and apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil before installing them. Be sure to use correct O-rings for R-134a to avoid leakage.</step><step><emph type="bold">Torque</emph> alternator mounting bolts to 17 ft. lbs.</step><step>Recharge A/C refrigerant as outlined under <emph type="dquote">Charging System</emph> in <emph type="dquote">General Service</emph> on the main menu selection.</step></stepgrp2></stepgrp></pstepgrp></MOTOR_Procedure></Data>
